Check out the brilliant bee-shaped BUMBLEance travelling from Kerry to Dublin to raise much-needed funds

It's been creating quite a... BAD PUN ALERT... buzz.

Every now and then in JOE, we see something that gives a tug on our heartstrings and makes us a little bit more thankful for what we have… this is definitely one of those moments.

A brilliant-looking, bee-shaped bus is being pushed from Dingle to Dublin to raise money in aid of a special ambulances for children, and it has been creating quite a… BAD PUN ALERT… buzz.

BUMBLEance is a non-profit organisation dedicated to ensuring that the journey of a sick child who needs ambulance transportation to and from a treatment centre and their home is the most comfortable journey possible.

The BUMBLEance ambulance service has a high quality entertainment system including WIFI and a games console, so children can be as relaxed as possible while being transported; it also has all the necessary equipment of a normal ambulance. Just have a look at the video below to learn more about BUMBLEance…

Starting on the 10th of September in Dingle, volunteers have been pushing the bee-shaped bus the huge 350km from the Kingdom towards the capital in an attempt to raise money to fund a second BUMBLEance.

JOE spoke to CEO and founder of BUMBLEance Tony Heffernan today and he was in good spirits about the charity push.

“We’re just heading towards Moneygall [in Offaly] and things are going very well,” said Heffernan. “We’ve already raised over €60,000 and now we’re just pushing towards Stephen’s Green, Dublin, on the 19th.”

Volunteers take a well-earned break en route to Dublin

While they have raised an extraordinary sum already, they need to raise €250,000 to reach their target for the charity event and they need your help to do it.

“We’ve had a lot of support so far. From Dingle to Tipperary, we’ve had families out cheering us on. Some of them have had children who have used the BUMBLEance while others will be using it in the next week or so

“We just need everyone to get out and help us. We need to get this done. We need a second ambulance. We’ve had to turn people away in the past which isn’t a nice thing.

“The biggest challenge has been getting volunteers to push the vehicle. We need a lot of help and we’d love it if more people can get involved. If there is anyone who does want to get involved, they can email us on [email protected] or call us on 083 0044 4444.”
