WATCH: Clare man proposes by performing this unique version of ‘Fairytale of New York’ in the pub on St. Stephen’s Day

And the (wedding) bells were ringing out for Christmas Day…

Fair play to Gary from Kildysart in County Clare.

Not only did he recently build up the courage to propose to his girlfriend, Verona from Quin, in front of a room filled with friends and family, but he also managed to do it in his very own special way.

Gary, instead of doing something run-of-the mill and boring like hiring a white stallion and closing down Disney World for the day so he could parade up Main St. to greet his future wife, decided to go one step further and rewrite the lyrics of The Pogues and Kirsty McColl’s iconic Christmas classic, ‘Fairytale Of New York.’

Pressure? What pressure?

The magical musical moment took place in The Copper Jug in Ennis and who knows, maybe Gary will be asking Shane MacGowan to be Best Man at the wedding?

Massive congratulations to the happy couple and their kids, Cora and Lexi, and we wish them all the very best for the future.

Enjoy, our favourite moment has to be the, “are you joking me!?”

And just in case you didn’t catch some of that, Gary even did a second performance of his one-hit wonder back at home in Crusheen.

Here’s the original for old time’s sake. Merry Christmas, everyone…
