The clocks have gone forward

Clocks

Try to control your rage.

In the name of expanding the grand stretch in the evening even further, we all lost one hour of sleep last night. Whether that’s a fair trade remains open for discussion.

At 1am on Sunday morning, the clocks skipped forward an hour, beginning Daylight Savings Time. The clocks will skip back an hour in October.

There has been much discussion recently around whether or not Daylight Savings Time should be scrapped, and the European Parliament voted last week to do away with the system.

If the proposal to get rid of the DST goes the full distance, it’s likely that 2021 would be the final year that the system is in place.

However, this directive would only apply to EU nations, meaning that the United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland could end up in different timezones during parts of the year. This would include Northern Ireland.

The Irish government has not yet stated its position on the matter.
