PICS: Man in Cork finds window smashed in, later discovers decent gesture from the people responsible

Good to see there are still a few decent people out there.

The night before St. Patrick’s Day is always a pretty busy night in the social calendar, with people always eager to take advantage of the day off with a drink or two the night before.

As often happens, some people end up having a few more than others and end up being a little worse for wear, as was the case in Kinsale on Thursday night.

John McCarthy, a retired schoolteacher in the town, was watching TV at about 11pm last night when one of his windows was smashed.

In shock, it took him several minutes to get to his front door, by which time those responsible were nowehere to be seen.

He called the Gardaí, but with no way of identifying the suspects, there was little they could do to help, so John and his son Nick patched up the window as best as they could.

This morning, Nick called to the house again and while he was there, he found a note shoved in through the letterbox from the anonymous people responsible for smashing the window and a contribution towards fixing it.

We’ll let Nick take up the story below.

Nick tells us that the money left (€200) was enough to cover the cost of a local tradesman who was good enough to help John out and fix the window on Paddy’s Day.

Granted, getting drunk and breaking a window, albeit accidentally, and then leaving the scene is hardly admirable behaviour, but not everyone would hold their hands up and go about trying to make amends either; a gesture that John and Nick were both very appreciative of.

Cheers to Nick McCarthy for sending this our way. If you have something you would like to share with us, send it to [email protected] or hit us up on Facebook or Twitter.
