5 ways to help make the most of a cosy night in this Christmas

‘Tis the season…

Much of the reason why Christmas is so awesome comes down to the fact that you get to do absolutely sod all. From just hanging out with family and friends in front of a movie you’ve all seen 1,000 times before to eating turkey and ham sandwiches until you’re fit to burst, what’s not to love?

Seeing as we already teamed up with Doritos to show you how to throw the ultimate Christmas party, we thought we’ll show you how to have a cosy night in too. It’s a much more relaxed affair, so Christmas jumpers are optional.

Only joking, they’re mandatory…

Don we now our gay apparel

Speaking of Christmas jumpers, they are essential wearing if you’re looking for a festive cosy night in. The uglier the better, and we’re sure a few of you will be opting for a (literally) flashy ensemble complete with fairy lights.

This is the kind of dedication we need to make this night work.

Pick a movie beforehand

This is crucial. If you are the host, then this is your responsibility.

No one wants to spend the first half hour arguing over what to watch. Take the initiative and choose a movie that everyone will be able to watch.

Die Hard and It’s a Wonderful Life might sound like different movies on paper, but they’re equally reliable choices.

Stock up on grub

Another essential would be copious amounts of food. We’re looking to maintain the cosy atmosphere, so the key is to keep it simple.

Something you can fire into the oven would be ideal for dinner, with some Doritos (now available in special-edition Christmas packs) and dip for the movie. Maybe add some melted cheese on those bad boys, and you’re sorted for the evening.

Just don’t be that guy who picks up half the bowl in one swoop…

Put the word out

The phrase “the more, the merrier” gets thrown around a lot, but it’s certainly true around Christmas. Chances are there are a lot of people that you only really get to see during this time of year, so be sure to reach out.

Creating a WhatsApp group is always a good shout, but it’s the perfect time to reach out to someone you don’t see very often. Whether it’s a family member you haven’t seen in years or a friend that you’ve lost touch with, there’s no harm in asking.

Switch off the phones

Not everyone will agree with this one, but it can make a huge difference. Once everyone has arrived, maybe either ask them to put their phones on silent or find a place to keep them all together.

A room full of phone-staring zombies isn’t exactly the most festive place to be…
