Irishman Brendan Barnes has undertaken a huge task to raise money for Project Zambia, and will cycle 25,000 miles around the world.
This mammoth undertaking will last two years and six months. He’s already made his way from Anchorage in Alaska to Portland, Oregon after only a few months, covering over 6,000km along the way, so he’s still got quite a distance to go yet.
His plan is to go through North America and Mexico, heading on down to South America where, when he reaches Argentina, he’ll head across the water and hop back on the bike, cycling through Africa, the Middle East and Europe.
Project Zambia is not just about raising money for the great work that they do in helping communities to develop their own solutions to the problems caused by poverty, but Brendan states that his goal is also about raising awareness of the charity, and hopefully getting more people involved by forging stronger connections between communities here in Ireland and those in Zambia.
He’s had an eventful few months so far, having been through Alaska and down into Canada, seeing some fantastic sites in the Yukon, some spectacular wildlife and scenery, and even gained the odd fan along the way.
If you want to donate to the cause, you can head over to the donation page on Brendan’s blog, or keep yourself up to date on all his progress through his updates or give him a like on Facebook.
Hat tip to Jon Barnes for sending this our way
