This great ball of fury in a checkered shirt just made history.

The much anticipated return of Dermot Bannon’s home improvement show, Room to Improve has become the most viewed programme of the year so far with 722,000 viewers tuning in.

And it’s all because of Daniel O’Donnell.

The country star and his wife Majella were featured on the show, which had a 51% share of the audience, making it the show’s most watched episode to date.

What’s more, the Sunday night programme outperformed the likes of The Late Late Show which had an audience of 510,000 and the Ray D’Arcy Show with 355,000.

It seems people were more interested in the lovely Daniel’s moderately combative manner, which was a beast unleashed once the initial estimates of €200,000 rocketed to somewhere in the region of €400,000.

Anyone else already looking forward to next week’s episode? Yeah, we know Daniel won’t be in it, but it’ll still be definitely worth checking out.

Room To Improve will be back on RTÉ One this Sunday 25 February at 9.30pm.
