The public had been asked by the Natural Environment Research Poll to vote on the name of a £200m polar research ship, and 120,000 votes in were cast online for Boaty McBoatface.
Now, in the greatest subversion of public will in the history of the world, that verdict has been officially ignored - and the vessel will instead be named the RRS David Attenborough.

Attenborough has said he feels honoured, going on to say "I hope that everyone who suggested a name will feel just as inspired to follow the ship’s progress as it explores our polar regions."
