That is, simply put, way more teeth than you’re supposed to have.

Have you ever gone to the doctor with what you thought was something small, and ended up being told that you’re in fact quite sick?

Well, imagine that, and multiply it by a hundred.

A 7-year-old boy in India was complaining of jaw pain, so he was admitted to a hospital in Chennai, where doctors scanned and x-rayed his mouth, and found a total of 526 teeth inside his mouth.

Doctors said it is a unique medical case and a first-of-its-kind.

Speaking to CNN, Doctor Prathiba Ramani, the head of Oral and Maxillofacial Pathology at Saveetha Dental College and Hospital said that there were a total of 526 teeth ranging from 0.1 millimeters (.004 inches) to 15 millimeters (0.6 inches).

“Even the smallest piece had a crown, root and enamel coat indicating it was a tooth”, Ramani said.

Ramani said the boy was suffering from a very rare condition called compound composite odontoma. She said what caused the condition is unclear, but it could be genetic or it could be due to environmental factors like radiation.

The boy has made a full recovery, and now has a healthy 21 teeth.
