Does your dog’s name feature in the top 20 most popular dog names of 2015?

It must be woof on the dogs whose names are left out.

Much like celebrities with their children, ordinary people tend to take a few liberties when naming their pets these days.

Thankfully, as a recent survey by Rover.com shows, as far as dogs are concerned at least, owners are still relying on traditional names and not naming their dog something that would justifiably earn a sly bite or two from their best friend.

Dog names tend to be a little more universal than their human equivalents and while the Rover survey was limited to 1,000 pet owners in the US, plenty of dog owners in Ireland will be familiar with the top ten male and female dog names below.

Well, with the exception of Tucker, perhaps.

Elsewhere in a fairly comprehensive survey, it was revealed that human names for pets are on the up, as are names based on characters in The Huger Games, while Guinness is the most popular name for a dog in the food and drink category.

Fair play to whoever named their dog Duke Smellington by the way. A big round of a-paw-se for them.
