Donegal musician plays beautiful tribute to friends who died

Alan Loughnane

Donegal tribute

This is excellent.

There is a tremendous sense of loss in Donegal at this moment as it said goodbye to four young men who tragically lost their lives.

Mícheál Roarty (24), John Harley (24), Shaun Harkin (22) and Daniel Scott (23) were laid to rest in what was described by a local priest as “one of the darkest days in the history of the community in Donegal.”

Huge crowds of people flocked to their funerals to pay their respects to the young men.

Daniel Doak was a close friend of John Harley, and knew the other three lads, but currently resides in Texas in the US and couldn’t attend the funerals.

So he decided to pay tribute in his own way by covering the Richard Thompson song ‘Beeswing’, a song which was a favourite of Harley.

Writing online, he said:

“It’s been a tough few days for many of us but my thoughts are with the families now. I don’t really know any other way of expressing myself other than playing a John Harley favourite. Sorry I couldn’t make it home, gonna miss you, pal!

I’m also proud to have known Daniel Scott, Shaun Harkin and Roycee and have some great memories to cherish. This ones for these 4 gentlemen. RIP lads. “

This is just beautiful.
