Make a life-changing decision today

JOE

“I wish I was an actor.”

He’s a face we all recognise, but he would have never wanted it to be that way.

In 2011, Gerry Collins featured in the HSE’s QUIT campaign. He told the world about his recovery from tobacco-related throat cancer.

Sadly, in the summer of 2013, Gerry contacted the HSE to let them know that he had been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer.

He asked the HSE if they could document this chapter of his story for a new phase of the QUIT campaign.

The following powerful clips are Gerry’s invaluable contribution to the campaign.

Gerry died from tobacco-related lung cancer one year ago today.

He was 57 and is sadly missed.

His family are extremely proud of the phenomenal impact these adverts have had.

Since the beginning of 2014 Gerry Collins has been inspiring countless other people to quit smoking and thus preventing thousands of avoidable premature illnesses and deaths.

Thank you Gerry and rest in peace.

If you smoke, remember you can QUIT and the HSE can help: Visit www.quit.ie and sign up for an online QUIT plan. Call the HSE Quit Team 1800 201 203 or FREETEXT QUIT to 50100.
