Dublin 4 is currently infested with a “biblical plague of flies”

Rory Cashin

Yeah, we just shuddered in disgust a little bit, too.

Local residents in Dublin 4 are complaining of a massive infestation of flies in the last few days.

Those in Sandymount, Ringsend and Irishtown suburbs in particular have claimed that the amount of flies that has descended upon them is so severe that several businesses have been forced to shut down, while those at home have had to keep their windows closed even in the recent high temperatures.

Local Labour Senator Kevin Humphreys took to Facebook to tell local residents that he is aware of the problem:

And he returned again soon after to ask those effected to send on details:

Meanwhile, several local businesses were severely effected, with some forced to close down and hire exterminators to deal with the problem.

Many people believe that the Poolbeg Incinerator is to blame, ever since began taking rubbish, but a spokesperson for the company which runs the incinerator told The Irish Times said it was not the source of the problem, stating: “There are no waste deliveries to the plant at the present time.”

Meanwhile, a spokesman for the local council have stated that they have had conducted some early investigations into the issue but so far could not link the problem to any particular activity, and stated that it may simply be down to the current weather conditions.
