Did your local make the cut?

Regulars in two famous watering holes in north Dublin have been getting behind their local as closing time draws near on the 2017 Dublin Pub Cup.

Votes are coming in thick and fast for the two finalists, Harry Byrne’s in Clontarf and Kavanagh’s in Marino, who made it to the final following intense competition between 32 contestants drawn from Fairview, Marino, Clontarf, Killester, Donnycarney, Drumcondra, Ballybough, North Strand and East Wall in north Dublin.

What started out as a bit of fun has developed into an intense competition, with individual battles between the pubs taking place all week on the @FMLocalHistory account on Twitter.

The full list of the competing pubs is as follows:

A bit like every knockout competition that has ever taken place in any field, the longer the competition has gone on, the more interest it has generated.

The brainchild behind the competition, who does not wish to be named, can vouch for the quality of all pubs, having enjoyed a drink in and still hopes to enjoy his drink in all of the establishments on the list.

At the time of writing (approximately 1pm on Monday) precious little separates the finalists with a day or so left for punters to cast their votes.

So who’s going to be raising their glass in celebration and who will be drowning their sorrows come Tuesday afternoon?

Keep an eye on @FMLocalHistory and #PubCup on Twitter for updates.
