After beating over 11,000 entries for the Huawei Creatives, Peter O’Doherty will get to travel the world taking photos, the jammy divil…
A few months back, we told you about an opportunity to win a free trip anywhere in the world. It was for the 2019 Huawei Creatives competition, where amateur photographers were being asked to show off their skills in a wide range of categories.
After more than 11,000 entries, a winner has been chosen for each category, as well as one overall winner. This was the fourth year of the competition, and the standard was better than ever across the board.
There could only be one winner though, and Dublin’s Peter O’Doherty claimed the title of Best Overall Photo 2019. As you’ll see from the stunning monochrome photo below of workers at Dublin Bay was a deserving winner!
Commenting on his winning shot Peter said: “People is what I love to photograph most. I saw these guys from a bus while on my way to Bull Island. I went straight over to them when I got off, to ask if I could take a couple of shots.
They soon forgot I was there and as I began to walk off, I noticed them forming a line. I noticed the reflection in the water and click.”
While categories like City, Nature, and Travel are all mainstays of the competition, Huawei mixed it up this year by including new additions such as Cityscapes, Street, and Night. While Peter’s effort was crowned the overall winner, you can also check out the 19 other winners from each category below.
The whole point of Huawei Creatives is to show off the very best of Irish innovation, creativity and talent. Zena Ross, Head of Marketing & Retail for Huawei Ireland said, “With more than 11,000 entries and almost 66,000 votes cast this year, Huawei Creatives has once again showcased and championed the creativity and passion of the Irish.”
