Electric Picnic packing: Your essential guide to what to bring with you

It’s nearly here!

Electric Picnic is happening this weekend, which means there are a lot of happy campers out there in more ways than one.

Tents are being dragged out of storage for the first time since last August, people are checking sleeping bags to see if they’re still usable and drawers are being searched for that portable charger you bought for these very occasions.

So if you have your ticket safely tucked away and you’re heading down to Stradbally, we have this essential guide to what to bring to Electric Picnic.

1. Your ticket

You know that someone is going to forget their ticket. Just make sure it’s not you.

2. Clothes for every season

We all know what the Irish weather is like so try to pack for as many seasons as possible. Take some light waterproofs, a warm jumper or hoodie and a change of shoes/wellies in case it rains. Speaking of seasons, it’s worth bringing some sun cream or a hat in case the sun makes a guest appearance.

3. Toothbrush and toothpaste

The last thing you want to do is forget your toothbrush and spend the last two days of the festival with a furry tongue and breath that could kill an elephant.

4. A portable phone charger

You don’t want to be constantly running back and forth to the phone charging tent. A portable charger ensures that you won’t lose your friends because your phone is dead. Plus, how are you going to make people jealous if you can’t annoy them with constant social media updates!?

5. A decent festival home

You may not plan to sleep much over the weekend but it helps to be comfortable when you do put your head down. Bring a sleeping bag to avoid freezing at night time and get a tent that isn’t going to collapse by the Saturday. Bring a pillow case and stuff it with some clothes to give you a makeshift pillow. An air mattress is optional if you want to really push the boat out!

6. Headache tablets

Always be prepared and all that!

7. Food and snacks

There are some fantastic food options available at the Picnic but it’s handy to have a few snacks or essentials back in the tent. It’ll save you a few quid and you’ll appreciate it if you get some late night munchies. Plus you can enjoy a handy snack when you’re catching up on your 90s nostalgia and watching a bit of 5ive, S Club Party or Ace of Base’s Jenny Berggren at the Electric Picnic Throwback Stage!

8. Booze

Festivals can be expensive affairs but bringing drink with you can take the sting out of things and ensure that you can still get a nightcap when the bars close down. Just remember that you can’t bring glass into the campsite.

9. Toilet roll

You’ll sell your soul for some toilet roll by the third day of the festival. A top tip is to bring some small packs of tissues instead of a giant roll. They’re easily carried and they’ll survive any spillages in the tent.

10. Black bags

The ultimate utility item for a festival. You can use them for rubbish, as a makeshift poncho or even to sit on damp grass without getting a soggy arse.

11. Wet wipes

It’s a shower in a packet.

12. Water

Bringing a multipack of water is also a good idea. It’s important to stay hydrated and bringing your own supply could save you a late night wander when you wake up parched.
