An Atlanta couple displayed great generosity when they donated their daughter’s cancelled wedding reception to charity, feeding 200 homeless people in Atlanta.

Carol and Willie Fowler had forked out thousands for a lavish wedding for their daughter Tamara, but 40 days before the big day, the ceremony was called off. Others in that situation may have just cut their losses, but the Fowlers had other ideas.

Mrs Fowler contacted Elizabeth Omilami, the head of Hosea Feed the Hungry, the Atlanta-based homeless charity to offer to give the less fortunate a four-course meal at the upmarket Villa Christina restaurant, complete with gold plates and crystal glasses.

“At first, I thought it was a prank call because it was such an amazing offering,” Omilami told WBUR.

The event – the first Annual Fowler Family Celebration of Love as they called it themselves – took place on Saturday and rather than just being a once off, the Fowler’s are planning on making it an annual event and hoping to get sponsors involved.

“Events are cancelled, and sometimes for unknown reasons. Do not allow that opportunity to go to waste. Call up your favourite charity. Give them an opportunity to use that for people that will not have an opportunity perhaps in life,” Mrs. Fowler said.

A great gesture and proof that every cloud really does have a silver lining.
