The controversial claim is being withdrawn.

TD Maria Bailey has given an interview to the Sunday Independent in which she confirmed that she will drop her claim against Dean Hotel, after she fell off a swing in the well-known Sophie’s Bar on the fifth floor.

Of the incident, which happened in July 2015, Bailey says: “I had nothing to hide. I had an accident, I was hurt and I had medical bills as a result of the accident.”

Bailey, who represents the Dun Laoghaire constituency for Fine Gael, has now expressed her desire to “draw a line in the sand” with regards to the affair. She also said: “As far as I am concerned this matter is now closed.”

Bailey had claimed injuries to her head, lower back and hip.

Following the emergence of her claim, it had been reported that Bailey had competed in 10km race just three after the fall, which directly contradicted elements of her claim.

The controversy around Bailey’s claim emerged in the same week as the local and European elections.

The interview will appear in full in tomorrow’s edition of the Sunday Independent.
