Five fashion faux pas our Dads are guilty of

Father’s Day is this Sunday and we’ve decided to look at some of the style crimes our Dads have committed over the years.

Socks with Sandals

Socks and sandals Ibiza 2001

This classic but wrong combo has been the domain of the Irish dad for many years now. Just how the Roman centurions managed without socks all those years ago is hard to fathom, but our dads do it time and again much to the obvious embarrassment of their offspring. There are many things that look more ridiculous when the sun is shining to see a middle-aged man proudly sporting sandals and a pair of socks. The socks can be of knee length variety too which adds to the cringe factor. If you truly love your Dad, you will hide his socks for the duration of the summer.

Trainers with Jeans

We’re not talking trendy Converse or Vans. We are talking about white trainers you wear in the gym, whether they be Asics or Nike or whatever, but they should never, ever, ever be worn with jeans. Our dads have continued to ignore this piece of sartorial advice and the world is a poorer place for it. They’re obviously thinking to themselves that they look somewhat youthful, but they actually look like they could commit violent crimes.

Glasses with Shades combo

You know the one? Dads wearing sunglasses in the sunshine, but they can flip them up and lo and behold the normal lenses are there. Why can’t these Dads buy a pair of shades? They seem to think they look super modern and dynamic because they are saving time on removing the shades to put on their glasses. Estimated time is about 2 seconds, but that’s obviously way too long to wait for our Dads. It’s not cool Dad, you look like an arts and crafts Terminator machine. Stop it now, stop it right now!

Jumper inside the Jeans

Not all Dads are guilty of this one admittedly, but if we can save one Dad from looking like a deranged extra from Killaniskully, then it’s all been worthwhile. The effect of sticking the oul’ geansai into the jeans is twofold. Firstly, you look like you’ve escaped from an institution and secondly the jumper pulls the jeans up to Simon Cowell levels and you are now being shunned by the village. Enough of this horror!

Tiny shorts and Vest

The socks and sandals look is bad enough, but when it’s combined with the string vest and shorts so short they look like their performing colonic irrigation, you have got to take action. Dads seem to think that we enjoy looking at their manhood when the sun comes out. Here he is, the big alpha male, the leader of the family and here’s his meat and two veg barely covered by a pair of flimsy nylon shorts. It’s not something we have to witness. For the love of your children and all that is sacred, get longer shorts and stick a t-shirt on too while you’re at it!
