What good is a man’s throne if there’s no seat to sit on? That’s why we’re showing you how to change a toilet seat in just five minutes.

It’s not often that the toilet seat breaks, but when it does it can be an absolute nightmare for all involved. You won’t be able to sit and read the morning’s paper and as for your missus, she won’t be able to answer nature’s call – no matter how urgent it is. So here’s how to fit a new seat to the loo in just five minutes.

What you’ll need:

Rubber gloves
New seat
Monkey wrench

What to do:

1: Out with the old…

Firstly, you should remove the old seat – or what’s left of it – by simply removing the screws that hold the seat in place. Every one is different, but they’re usually found on the underside of the bowl rim. The seat might be a bit manky so make sure to wear your gloves.

2: Do the prep work for the new seat

Assemble the new fitting to the new seat to make sure everything is there and that everything fits. Read the instructions if you have to. The main reason toilet seats breaks or become loose is because they haven’t been put on properly.

3: Get it in place

It’s now time to fit the seat to the bowl. Attach the new fittings through the boltholes on the rim and hand-tighten the seat to the bowl. Don’t over tighten them now, as you’ll need to position the seat later on.

4: Secure the seat

Finally, once you’re happy with the positioning of the seat you can secure it to the bowl. Fully tighten the screws with your hand if you can, or just use your wrench.
