This GAA club’s approach to a game being scheduled at the same time as mass is genius

Kate Demolder

We could all learn a lesson or two from Strokestown GAA.

Ever needed to be in two places at once and wonder how you could pull it off? Well, next time give the Senior team at Strokestown GAA a call, as they seem to be pretty handy at organising around their previous engagements.

Having realised that the Roscommon team’s weekend match was scheduled for Sunday at 11:30am, and thus clashing with mass, the mass-going players are being given a day off by the big man Himself, as long as they receive their First Holy Communion pitch-side.

And no, you couldn’t make this up.

Strokestown GAA took to Twitter to make the announcement.

The tweet reads:

“The Senior lads are at home to Croans on Sunday at 11:30am. Communion will be served at the pitch for any mass goers.”

This means that any mass-going player will not have to prioritise sport over religion in what could have been a pretty messy fight.

Thanks be to God for that.
