And they all laughed at you for wearing your county strip to the club…

At long last, the sartorial marvel that is the GAA jersey is being given the recognition it deserves in the fashion world.

The shoot stars hurler-turned-model Oisin Murphy, holding his hurl and his helmet and striding across a field like its a catwalk.

Though Murphy plays for Birr in his native Offaly, he’s actually been photographed wearing the jersey of Cushendall GAA from Co. Antrim. Some have speculated that it’s because an Offaly club jersey would simply have been too sexy for those over at Vogue.

The Cushendall jersey was designed by O’Neill’s, and Murphy is pictured opposite his fellow model Adwoa Aboah.

To be fair, the kit doesn’t look out of place in the fashion mag. We expect that Milan and Rome and all the other fashion strongholds in the world will be populated by fancy Italian men wearing Wexford jerseys by the fall.

So next time they try to deny you entry into Coppers for proudly wearing your club gear, you whip out your edition of Vogue Paris and let them know what’s happening on the continent.
