We might not get the weather to best utilise them that often, but Ireland is home to some fantastic beaches and some wonderful property in close proximity to them. One of those wonderful properties is Thatcher’s Rest Cottage in Bettystown in Meath, which this week had the distinction of being named as the best holiday home beach house at the 2016 European Holiday Home Association awards. For those of you not familiar with the cottage, it’s a spacious thatched holiday cottage that has only recently been renovated and it is home to stunning views of the Irish Sea, particularly from the big bay window inside. Bettystown beach itself is just a stone’s throw away and the cottage can cater for six people, with three bedrooms, one master suite, one double and one twin en-suite. Other Irish accommodation to warrant a mention in the various categories included Achill Cottages in Mayo, Decoy Country Cottages in Meath, Abhainn Ri in Wicklow, Ballyhoura Mountain Lodges in Limerick and Mount Brandon Cottages in Kilkenny.
