JOE’s Oisin Collins was over in London recently to check out the all-new third generation Mazda3 hatchback, so here’s a look at the latest motor to join the Mazda family.

One of the first things you’ll notice about the all-new Mazda3 is how good it looks. As soon as the car rolled out of its box here at London’s Docklands a ruck of eager journalists formed and heaved towards the velvet ropes… seriously.

Everyone at the event was dying to see the car in the flesh and I may have been guilty of stiffening up my elbows as I made my way towards the front for a better view – when in Rome, or London as the case may be…

We were drip-fed sneak peaks of the car all throughout the day, but it wasn’t until late in the evening when we finally got to see the motor up close. It was certainly worth the wait.

Okay, so here are some of the more important numbers and stats…

The new Mazda3 will come in a number of different engine types including 1.5L and 2.0L petrol engines. However, the lads at Mazda predict that the 2.2L diesel will be the biggest seller here in Ireland.

As for price… we still don’t know. However, there were some mumblings at the event that the new Mazda3 will be competitively priced in the C segment, so expect it to be priced similar to other motors in the C-segment.

The new car also gets a longer wheelbase, which means more legroom in the back and greater boot space too.

We’ll have the precise facts and figures later in the year when we get to test drive the Mazda3, but until then, enjoy the pics above.
