GANT add a splash of colour to their Spring/Summer 2014 collection at Arnotts menswear department
For Spring/Summer 2014, GANT have turned to the summer wedding for inspiration, but we don’t mean the type of one where it’s bucketing down rain and you have to wear a hooded trench coat to the ceremony. Think outdoor gazebo and chilled bottles of beer, and you’re more along the right lines, with classic garments that mix formal tailoring and accessories with a more relaxed look so you’re not overdressed.
This year’s theme is ‘Ocean Prep’ where they’ve blended nautical and collegiate looks, which rarely go out of style. There are plenty of stripes and block colours, as well as vibrant shades that will have you set for the afters at the boat club, or a quick drink by the canal if we get a Summer as good as the one we had last year.
Summer textures are all important too, so expect to see plenty of linen (from blazers to shirts) while seersucker will also be making an appearance, a perfect fabric for the warmth, and one that has come a long way from its association with gentlemen such as Colonel Sanders to be a much more fashionable affair these days. As JOE always recommends, accessories will give a touch of personality and detail to your outfit, so adding a pocket square to your Summer blazer or adding some colour underneath your knit will make you stand out from the crowd, which is why there are some daring colours in this collection, including indigo and sunburst yellow, for the brave amongst us.
Fit is a specialty for GANT, and should be foremost in our mind when we’re buying for our own wardrobe, so this season look for tailored trousers and blazers, not to mention keeping an eye out for more Summer-friendly breathable shirts and blazers that will keep you cool as the temperature starts to climb.
