Although it might still be cold outside, it’s time to start thinking about our Spring wardrobe

That’s what the folks at River Island have been doing, and they’ve got a few selections of looks ready for us to choose from in their Spring/Summer collection 2014.

One of the most prominent looks is based on a floral pattern, and is called ‘Sports Botanical’. It can be pretty high fashion and a bit daunting as a starting point, but there are plenty of patterns in there that aren’t overly adventurous, like the Irvine black floral print jumper or the Tony Print Polo Shirt that features a little bit of the print on the lower half.

Floral is definitely one of the patters that we’re going to be seeing more of however, so you have a few options on how to work it in to your regular rotation, including by going for a slightly smaller sized print and matching it with plain colours or block colours, as you can see with the striking Cobalt Mikey suit look above. Ankle grazer trousers and slacks will stay in style too, so you can mix and match with some boat shoes or plimsoles, or even a brogue too.

For the more traditional out there, you’ll also find some great pieces at River Island this coming season amongst the ‘Artisan’ and ‘Holloway Road’ collections. We’ve picked just a few of our favourites like the grey blazer and waistcoat, blue grandad shirt (which is also available in white), a simple striped short sleeve shirt in muted colours for when it gets a little bit warmer, and two cricket-style jumpers in both navy and a dark green, that we’ve reserved a spot in our closet for already.

One thing River Island do very well, and at a good price point, is denim, and this season is no different. Stonewashed skinny jeans are the look that is in this season, but you can also go for darker colours. In particular, shades of black and darker blues work well when you want to go double denim, meaning you can light on top with a jacket or shirt.

A whole range of accessories and shoes, from bags to shades and bow ties, will help you to spruce up your look that little bit more, and there are plenty on offer in this season’s collection. We liked the touch of neon added to a classic brogue to inject a bit of vibrancy into a formal shoe and we’ve been coveting a good solid monk for a while now, which will also be amongst the collection.
