Very worrying news for dog owners.

The Barna Vet Clinic has warmed dog owners in Galway to avoid certain parts of the Corcullen/Drom area after four dogs mysteriously died this weekend.

In a statement on Facebook, Barna and Moycullen Veterinary Clinics wrote: “There have been four deaths of dogs in different households all walked in the same are between the cross and the football pitches.

“Dog owners should avoid this area for now as, as yet, cause unknown. Symptoms include increased temperature and panting and sudden death.”

While there is no certain explanation for the deaths yet, the post suggests that some kind of “toxin or poison” could be responsible.

“Please be vigilant and contact your vet if you have any concerns about your dog if you have walked them in this area yesterday or today,” the statement concludes.

The vets further encouraged anyone who has seen anything suspicious in the area to notify the Gardaí.

On Facebook, a local noted that they had also found a dead cat in that area over the weekend.
