Garda recruitment drive looking for up to 800 trainees

An Garda Síochána announced that they are having a massive recruitment drive, with candidates having a few weeks to apply for the trainee positions.

Applications close on 1 June 2017, with the trainee drive encouraging women and individuals from minority groups to consider a career in policing.

Here’s what you need to apply:

  • Be aged between 18 and 35 as of 1 June 2017, i.e. born between 31st May 1982 and 1 st June 1999
  • Possess an Irish Leaving Certificate with a grade D3 minimum in five subjects at Ordinary Level OR hold a Level 5 Certificate (Major award) on the National Framework of Qualifications OR hold a recognised qualification (at level 5 or greater), deemed comparable to the above in terms of both level and volume of learning as determined by Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI)
  • A proven proficiency in at least two languages, one of which must be Irish or English
  • Possess what the Garda refer to as being “medically and physically fit, who have a dedicated sense of community spirit, are empathetic, and who are passionate about helping other people”
