This gesture by a hairdresser in Cavan to a young family will restore your faith in humanity

Conor Heneghan

A reminder that there are plenty of good people out there.

2016 was full of so many crap stories that it’s worth starting the New Year with a good one.

Two days ago, Lorraine Kelly of Main Street Barbers in Cavan town became aware of a well-known young couple in the town having lost a wallet that contained €2,000, their total budget for themselves and their four young children for the month of January.

It was misfortune, Lorraine said, that left them “heartbroken and devastated”.

In an effort to help out, Lorraine decided to raffle off a pair of Platinum HD hair straighteners with a value of €215 (each) in the hope that enough people would buy a €20 line in the raffle to raise the money the young couple had lost the day before.

Less than a day later, Lorraine managed to raise the money the couple had lost, with a surplus she promises “will not be wasted”.

In a post on Facebook, Lorraine said that the couple in question were “so thankful and in shock that people would care as much,” while Lorraine herself thanked all those who contributed, “calling it human nature at its best”.

Fair play to Lorraine and to everyone involved.

Cheers to Fred Sharkey for sending this our way. Got a story for JOE? Hit us up on Facebook or Twitter, send it to our WhatsApp number 087-4001102 or mail [email protected].
