One of the biggest races in the cycling calendar gets underway this month and you can be there for the start in Ireland and there for the finish in Rome.

As was the case when the Tour de France came to these shores in 1998, there is huge excitement about the impending arrival in Ireland of the best cyclists in the world for the Giro D’Italia, a race which is exceeded only by the Tour itself in terms of its importance in the cycling world.

The race gets underway in Belfast on Friday, May 9 and continues down through Armagh and onto Dublin for that entire weekend before participants make their way to Italy to complete a race that lasts for just over three weeks before coming to a close in Rome on the June Bank Holiday weekend.

If you’re one of the many cycling nuts that will be heading along to catch the Giro while it’s here to try and catch a glimpse of the likes of Nairo Quintana, Cadel Evans as well as our own Nicolas Roche and Dan Martin, what better way to spend the Bank Holiday weekend than by taking in the end of it in Rome, a city that offers something new each and every time you visit it.

If we’ve convinced you to do so – and really, we shouldn’t have to try very hard – check out some of the excellent offers on hotels in Rome from JOEbreaks.ie below, and get your accommodation sorted early so you can wheelie start looking forward to the weekend *JOE goes to get coat*
