Get yer hot water bottles out! Temperatures will drop to -1 several nights this week

Carl Kinsella

Weather forecast February

What’s cooler than being cool?

Some things that are going to be crucial over the coming nights: a heavy duvet, woolly socks, plenty of teabags and a hot water bottle.

We’re getting into the belly of the winter weather, and sadly, it’s a very cold belly. Met Éireann’s outlook for the national forecast, published today, tells us that temperatures on Tuesday night (5 November) will be between -1 and 3 degrees with “patches of mist and fog forming as winds fall.”

While we don’t have any minimum temperatures for Wednesday, we know that the highest temperatures are lower than we’ll see today, which doesn’t augur well. Similarly, Thursday will see lows of plus 2 to -1 , with a widespread frost forming and also a few patches of mist and fog once more.

Friday evening won’t feel much better, but at least we’ll be back on the positive side of zero, with lows of between 2 and 5 degrees.

Sadly, we’ll be frostbitten again by Sunday, as Met Éireann forecast it to be “cold and frosty overnight,” with lows of zero or -1.

T’is the season, folks.
