Why a Grad Visa in the USA is one of the best things you’ll ever do

Graduate Visa USA

Brought to you by USIT

The land of the free, the home of the brave.

Young Irish people following their dream and travelling to the United States is not a new thing; in fact, it’s been happening for over a hundred years.

But heading Stateside on a USIT 1 year Graduate Visa is something that is unexplored territory for a lot of young Irish folks.

If you’re unaware of what it is, it’s a pretty sweet deal. You can head over within 12 months of your final piece of coursework; the only requirement is that you find work within 90 days of arriving, and it must be somewhat related to your degree.

After that, the world is your oyster.

Well, America is, which is close enough…

If you’re eligible, and still on the fence about whether or not you think it’s for you, here are just a few of the benefits to gain from heading across the pond.

For more info just head to their official website here.

Meeting new people

There are loads of Americans in the news that might not be worth meeting, but it’s important not to generalise a country of 325 million based on the people you see on the news.

There are plenty of really nice people who will be absolutely chuffed to meet you, and will show you an insight into a culture that you are almost definitely not familiar with.

Just be prepared to hear “No way, I’m Irish!” 40 times per day.

Furthering your career

Life across the big pond is not just one big party, though. At the end of the day, you are still going to have to work.

But the good thing is, you’ll be working at something that you probably have a bit of an interest in. Not only that, but it will look brilliant on your CV.

Future employers will see that you’re well able to step outside your comfort zone and thrive in a new environment. It’s a win-win.

And in case you’re worried about finding a job, USIT are actively looking for interns in industries including business, law, media, engineering and much more.

It’s a rare opportunity

Flights to America are not cheap, but if you act fast, you could bag yourself a great deal.

If you organise your grad visa through USIT and do it before 21 September, you’ll get a free flight and save €450 in the process.

When are you going to get a deal like that again? Never! Because you only have the 12 months after you finish your college coursework to go on the Graduate Visa.

So act fast!

USIT are still accepting applications for 2018, so if you’re starting to feel tempted, all the information you need can be found on the USIT website, the USIT Facebook page and the USIT Twitter page.
