It’s officially BBQ season, time to impress your friends and family by throwing the best party of them all

You’ve been preparing for this all year.

The walls have been painted, the flowers watered, and the decking varnished.

Now, at long last, you can plan the BBQ of your dreams.

The party people will talk about all year, the one your friends will copy next summer.

But what are the key ingredients of a hit like this? How can you make your BBQ better than all the others you’ve been to before?

Follow our six simple steps to BBQ success.

Stock up on food

You’re going to want to keep people’s stomach full for the best part of a day, this requires some forward planning! While burgers and sausages are staple BBQ delicacies, it’s the smaller things that’ll make your party stand out from the crowd. The snacks and treats that you buy will make all the difference.

Keogh’s crinkle cut crisps are the perfect option to keep your hangry guests satisfied. Thanks to their new flamed grilled steak flavour, they’ll fit into your party better than ever before. It’s not easy finding snacks with REAL Irish meat, tasty ingredients and a gluten free formula. They’re sure to go down a treat!

Choose the right day

This is a hard one. You have to choose a day when everyone is off work, but unlikely to have pre-existing plans. Check the calendar ahead of time to avoid clashing with a major sporting event or music festival.

While you’re at it, take a look at the weather forecast! If possible, bank holidays are a good shout, as they give people that extra day or two to recover.

Plan the party layout

As the night wears on, people will spill inside to avoid the cold. Decide the parameters of the party and designate enough space for them. You want the place to look full, without cramming people into a small room!

Put away anything breakable, nothing ends a party faster than a tipsy guest smashing a housemate’s antique vase!

Some last minute preparations

24 Hours before everyone arrives, make sure you have everything sorted. Do you have enough food and drink? How about plates and cups? Give the weather one final review, before it gets too late to postpone.

Create an atmosphere

To ensure your guests have the best possible experience on the day, you’ve got to create the right atmosphere. This is essential to ensure people relax and conversation flows.

Make a playlist before people arrive full of chilled out, crowd pleasing hits- you can leave the dance floor classics until after 2am! Fairly lights will create a soft lighting effect on a budget, while incense or aroma diffusers can add to the overall effect too.

Choose your guests wisely

At the end of the day, it’s the guests that make or break the party. Invite the friends that will make it an event to remember. Consider ‘forgetting’ to invite that distant cousin who talks endlessly about work.

Think about who will get along, and introduce them to each other on the night. You never know, you might end up playing cupid for a blossoming romance!
