Happy Birthday Will Ferrell: Here are 10 things that the great man has taught JOE

He's kind of a big deal...

He’s kind of a big deal…

Much like last year, JOE is celebrating the fact that Will Ferrell turns 47 today. To celebrate such a holy day, JOE has decided to take a look at ten vital life lessons that Papa Burgundy himself has taught us.

To be honest, the man has given JOE so much knowledge, tips and wisdom that we could have made a list that was 1,279,603 points in length, but as the great man once said, sometimes you just have to say ‘when in Rome’.

1) Never shoot yourself in the head with a tranquilliser gun

JOE wishes that our Dad took us aside when we were 18 to give us this timeless advice. He didn’t…

2) It’s OK to really love sports

It will come as no surprise to learn that Ferrell actually studied sports broadcasting at the University of Southern California before he became one of the greatest comedians currently alive.

In fairness, it shows in his career so far; Semi-Pro, Blades of Glory, Kicking and Screaming, Talladega Nights, his time working as an usher for the LA Lakers, his motivational speech to the US football team, winning the coin toss for Chelsea, the photo below and much, much more.

3) Pay your rent on time.

Dealing with an angry landlord is always a scary prospect but Ferrell showed us how to handle the situation like a pro. Or he just broke down and cried in front of a little girl.

4) Learn to play an instrument.

It’s often said that women love a man who can play an instrument and the comedian is clearly a talented musician. Not only is Ferrell a better drummer than his twin, Chad Smith from the Red Hot Chilli Peppers, but he also has played the cowbell with Queens of the Stone Age and Blue Oyster Cult.

5) Politics can be cool.

The comedian has campaigned for Barack Obama, hilariously ripped into George Bush, hung out with Michelle Obama and chatted to Australia’s Prime Minister about hairdressing on live television. JOE would vote for him.

6) It’s ok to date an older woman.

Dustin Hoffman in ‘The Graduate’ was the first person to make JOE really take notice about the benefits of an older woman, but it was Chazz Michael Michaels who made it socially acceptable and not weird in any way.

7) Ireland is the greatest place in the world.

Ferrell has holidayed in Donegal, won the James Joyce award from UCD and made numerous trips to Longford with his family in an effort to retrace his family roots.

Upon receiving the award from UCD, he said: “I’m so committed to my Irish roots that I intend to continue to drive on the left-hand side of the road in America. Will it be dangerous? Yes. Is it illegal? Highly. But that’s just how committed I am”.

8) Public speaking is easy.

Ferrell’s motivational speeches are legendary. His locker room speech in Old School helped rally his fraternity to win (while also burning down the school), he fired up the US fans during the World Cup, stole the show at the Golden Globes and somehow managed to make the Best Make-Up category at the Oscars hilarious.

9) Public nudity is rarely a good idea.

Is that KFC still open?

10) Will Ferrell is without doubt one of the greatest human beings alive.

And that is a scientific fact. Stay classy Will.
