Head to JOE: Add bright shades to darker pieces this Spring to liven up your wardrobe

Spring means colour, but there's no need to go over the top

Spring means colour, but there’s no need to go over the top

Spring has sprung and the weather is getting progressively better. At some stage, according to legend, there is even believed that there will be enough heat out there to enjoy having a beverage outside the heated terrace, but until we see it, we ain’t believing it.

However, just because the weather is warmer doesn’t mean that we have to ditch entirely one of our favourite pieces from our wardrobe, namely the blazer. Layers are great in Winter to keep us warm, but they’re also perfect for Spring too, allowing us to switch quickly to deal with rain showers and sunny spells.

Colour is also key however, and with the Spring bringing some brighter colours to the world around us, it’s always a good idea to reflect that in the shades we wear out and about, and our mates at Hackett have the perfect selection in their Spring/Summer collection this season.

The key here is not to go too bold too soon, but rather to match lighter colours with darker shades. Going all pastel pink may not have the desired effect of making you look Summery, and rather more like a salmon fillet, so if you’re going to go light on the trousers, like these bright, white Grosvenor five pocket toursers, then add a dark jumper that offsets it, like this navy cable knit silk jumper.

That allows you to introduce a bit more colour again with both the shirt and the jacket. A simple but classic light blue linen shirt can be worn with the trousers on their own as the two bright colours work well, or with this windowpane blazer to break up the light colours of white and cream together. Adding the jumper not only covers you when it comes to a cool breeze in the evening, but the layers make this a versatile look that you can combine in a number of different ways, making sure you get bang for your buck.

We’re always a fan of sneaking a bow tie into your outfit somehow, and it’s definitely something that has no seasonal limits. This bright touch of colour added by the polka dot bow tie is a great way to personalise an outfit too, where the little details allow you to express you flair and unique style. A further touch of individuality will come from your pocket square too, which allows you to capture the colours of the jumper and your neckwear with this perfect plaid handkerchief.
