Your care-free life in college is short, so here’s a few tips to make sure you get the most from those blissful years.

1. Know where every plug in college is so you can charge your phone for free

2. Become a WiFi ninja, so you never have to pay for internets

3. Learn to cook

4. Walk everywhere, it is the best way to learn the place you live and it is free

5. Shop around for food. That weird, nearly-gone-off-stuff shelf in the supermarket is your friend

6. Join a society. Yes, it might be crap but at least you did it and you might just be the greatest jazz flautist Ireland ever had

7. Go to the library

8. Go to the lectures

9. You’d be amazed how useful those last two are

10. Use all the facilities. Gyms and the like are expensive in the real world so enjoy the cheap rates

11. Student discounts only come around once in your life

12. Don’t get a pet

13. Wear clothes from a second-hand shop. You will instantly gain the respect of your college friends of the hipster variety

14. Break up with your childhood sweetheart. There are loads, LOADS of single people in college. Enjoy yourself!

15. Learn a very cool party trick. College is full of parties. You being a boss at a party with a stunning party trick will ensure respect and lust from admirers near and far. Don’t learn guitar. It’s been done to death.

16. Buy a very robust and loud alarm clock. As previously stated, there will be lots of parties. You will sleep in and miss lectures. An alarm clock will prevent that and it’s robust nature will ensure that it doesn’t smash when you throw it against the wall in a fit of anger and fear

17. Join the drama society. The techniques you will learn here will help you avoid many awkward situations that drunken escapades result in. Learn aloofness and sincerity

18. Remember that, in hard times, three tins of beans and a loaf of bread is enough to feed you for a week

19. Set aside days for marathon box-set sessions, monster FIFA tournaments and the likes. We all need a break every now and again

20. Ring your mother at least once a week. Parents worry, you know

21. Change your bed sheets regularly. Not just for your own personal hygiene, of course, but a clean sheet could make the difference between getting lucky or not.

22. Get a pair of fake glasses. Invaluable for lectures where try as you might, you just can’t stay awake. Follow Homer’s lead.

23. Stage a Toga party

24. If you find a good housemate, stick with them.
