It’s been a great year.

This weekend marks the one year anniversary of Ireland voting 62% in favour of marriage equality.

Since then, 412 same-sex couples have tied the knot with the vast majority of marriages taking place in Dublin with 213 weddings.

This was followed by 43 marriages registered in Cork and 25 marriages in Limerick.

Carlow, Monaghan and Leitrim also had one marriage registered in each county.

Clare was the only county to have no same-sex marriages registered.

A total of 966 same-sex marriage notifications were received this year across Ireland.

These figures were released by the Department of Social Protection by Minister Leo Varadkar who said “the Marriage Equality Referendum was a historic day for Ireland. One year on, it’s really great to see that 412 marriages have now taken place which otherwise would not not have happened. It’s a timely reminder of that momentous vote on that momentous day.”
