Here’s some of the strangest items that Irish people have forgotten in taxis

Paul Moore

Some of these are weird.

My own father has been a taxi driver for over 30 years now and it’s safe to say that I’ve found some really odd stuff that people have left behind in his car. My own personal favourite story involved a man that hailed my dad’s taxi, was a very polite passenger, paid the fare and then hopped home.

The next morning I found an artificial leg in the backseat. This is the 100% truth, the guy was literally legless when he left my dad’s taxi.

Moving swiftly on, Hailo Ireland has released findings from a survey that was carried out among 530 drivers on their network which found that mobile phones (32%), are the most common item left behind in taxis. You know who you are!

Other frequently forgotten belongings include umbrellas (19%), keys (14%), glasses (10%) and hats (7%).

Drivers were also asked about the most unusual items left behind, and these included a cooked chicken, a box of lobsters, a signed Pink Floyd Album and some false teeth.

Wait, wait, wait. A cooked chicken?

When asked how frequently people leave their belongings in taxis, 86% of drivers said it occurs monthly, 12% said weekly, and 2% said daily. We all have that one friend, eh?

Upon returning the lost items, drivers say that they are often offered a box of chocolates, cash or are even invited in for dinner. By the way, fair play to those who do that because manners cost nothing.

The survey also stated that some customers actually cry when their phone is returned. I guess some people must really love their phones.
