How many houses have you been in where the bathroom is damp? Think of black spots on the ceiling and walls and you get the drift.
More often than not the cause of this is a broken seal somewhere and we are more than happy show you how you can fix the seal on your bath. We know a lot of you need the help.
What you need:
Silicone sealer
Scouring pad
Paint scraper
Methylated spirits
What to do:
Step 1: Half fill the bath
This may seem a little strange but it should be done. This will allow for any movement from the weight of the bath for when it is actually being used. We are nothing if not thorough.
Step 2: Clear the debris
First you need to remove whatever remains around the seal, if there is anything. This can be done with a paint scraper. To make sure everything is removed, a scouring pad dipped in methylated spirits should have the surface area clean as a whistle. Mind the fingers.
Step 3: Get sealing
Cut the nozzle of the silicone roughly at 30 degrees. Or for most of us, cut it so it fits in nicely to the groove. Run the nozzle along the gap and gently release the silicone. Don’t do this with a hang-over as a steady hand is essential.
Step 4: Even out the finish
Dip your finger into washing-up liquid and run along the silicone seal. This will remove any lumps and give an even finish. Now that it is done, paint the walls and ceiling. Those black spots will impress no-one.
