Hozier condemns Garda blasphemy probe of Stephen Fry

Rudi Kinsella

He’s not one bit happy.

Hozier has lambasted the Garda blasphemy probe of Stephen Fry, claiming that he’s “mortified” by the whole thing.

During an interview on Gay Byrne’s The Meaning of Life series on RTE, Stephen Fry said that if he ever met God, he would question his stupid decisions, and he referred to him as “capricious and mean-minded”. Byrne replied “And you think you’ll get in?” To which Fry said “I wouldn’t want to.”

Here’s a video of the interview in case you haven’t seen it…

It emerged last week that Fry could face charges of up to €25,000 on blasphemy charges due to his comments. The law currently states that “A person who publishes or utters blasphemous matter shall be guilty of an offence and shall be liable upon conviction on indictment to a fine not exceeding €25,000”

Although there have been no publicised cases of blasphemy brought before Irish courts yet, the incident still sparked a strong reaction from singer/songwriter Hozier, who is not one bit happy about the situation.

Strong words from the Bray man, and a perfect excuse to listen to one of the best songs from Hozier’s album.
