This would only happen in Ireland. We really hope Santa doesn’t have this same issue on Christmas Eve…
Earlier on Saturday, Iarnród Éireann announced delays of up to 30 minutes on the Maynooth line due to a mechanical fault.
But it wasn’t just any old mechanical fault.
It was a mechanical fault on a Santa steam train…

The issue has since been resolved, and the Santa special got back and moving at a reduced speed. Here’s hoping Santa doesn’t have any of these issues in a few days time.
Santa special is now moving towards Maynooth at reduced speed. Expect significant delays to Maynooth line services as a result. Dublin Bus are honouring Rail tickets

According to the official website, the Santa Special “is a return journey by vintage train, with an on-board visit from Santa and selection boxes for children. There will be plenty of opportunity for photographs with the man in red beside the train.
“There will be music and singing, mince pies and a full bar service.”
As fun as that sounds, only in this country could a mechanical issue on a Santa train cause a delay.
