Just in time for Christmas, too.

American retail giant FAO Schwarz today announced plans to set up its first Irish location, based out of Arnotts department store on Henry Street, Dublin.

In a statement, the company said: “The Arnotts store will embody the ‘Return to Wonder’ theme across 6,000 sq ft of retail space, offering customers play-based platforms and unique experiences unlike anything available in Ireland today.

“Visitors will delight at every turn as they discover a land of wonder inside the store, where theatre and magic comes to life through FAO Schwarz signature elements – including the famous clock tower.”

The company was founded in 1862, and recently opened a new location at 30 Rock in New York City. The plan is for it to open its doors to Irish customers in October this year.

FAO Schwarz has been a notable part of popular culture for decades, and its giant keyboard featured in a memorable scene from the Tom Hanks’ movie Big. Now Dublin will have its own giant keyboards.

The New York store also features in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York.

Donald McDonald, Managing Director at Brown Thomas and Arnotts: “The opening of FAO Schwarz will deliver theatre, wonderment and magic to our customers and we are excited to become part of the many memories that will surely be made inside our walls.”
