There are more cases like this than you'd think.

Sonia 'Sunny' Jacobs and her Irish husband Peter Pringle both served almost 20 years each for murders that they didn't commit, in cases that shared some elements with Netflix's popular documentary series 'Making A Murderer.' Jacobs, who is American, was convicted of killing two policemen and only won her freedom because her lawyers agreed to work for free for the entire 17 years that she was incarcerated. Pringle was also convicted of murdering a policeman in Ireland, and his innocence was also eventually proved. Joe also speaks to the house-guest of Sunny and Peter, a man who spent two decades on death row in Ohio for a crime of which he was exonerated. Listen to the interview and you'll be shocked that this can happen. https://soundcloud.com/rte-radio-1/liveline-joe-duffy-speaks-to-callers-who-were-exonerated-from-prison
