Ireland’s best hotels and restaurants have been announced

There were plenty of winners at the prestigious Keelings Farm Fresh Gold Medal Awards, which recognise and rewarded excellence in the Irish hospitality and catering industries.

The awards took place last night in Lyrath Estate, Kilkenny and here are the winners.

Mayo’s Ashford Castle added to its impressive list of accolades after claiming the title of Ireland’s best five-star hotel.

Kellys Resort Hotel in Rosslare, Wexford won the public vote for the nations favourite place to stay while Mount Juliet Estate, Kilkenny won in the categories of best fine dining, best four-star hotel and it also claimed the overall supreme winner accolade.

Ireland’s best wedding venue for 2016 was awarded to Ballygarry House in Tralee while The Europe Hotel and the Galgorm Resort & Spa both won awards for Ireland’s finest spa.

Crowne Plaza Ireland – which has hotels in Northwood, Blanchardstown & Dundalk – won the award for best business hotel while Castlewood House in Dingle  was acknowledged as the best country house & guest house experience.

The Dunloe Hotel in Kerry was named as Ireland’s most family friendly hotel while Castle Leslie in Monaghan is where you can get the best hotel breakfast. The Westbury Hotel in Dublin was also a winner in the category of best city hotel.

Looking at specific restaurants, Anocht in Kilkenny went home with the award of best casual dining experience while Ristorante Rinuccini, Kilkenny won the prize for best European restaurant. David Hurley of Gregans Castle was named chef of the year and Boqueria Howth won the people’s choice awards for Ireland’s favourite place to eat.
