These Irish fellas in Santa Ponsa made a major pitstop to the off licence on their holiday

Alan Loughnane

Well… that’s quite an amount of alcohol.

It’s a holiday repeated by groups of young men and women across the country. You save and scrounge all year and then when the summer months hit, you take a well earned trip to Santa Ponsa, Magaluf or another of these popular destinations.

If you haven’t been on one of these trips, it’s almost certain that someone in your group of friends was on one.

Of course, you take in some of the local culture on this holiday but it would be naive to think that a fair amount of alcohol isn’t consumed by the many Irish tourists who visit these places.

If you’ve ever been to Santa Ponsa, there’s a good chance you’ll have heard of Arthur’s Off Licence, as it’s a well known haunt for many of the Irish sons and daughters who make the trip there.

They’ve seen all sorts there over the years, but this week, the record of the most money spent within its walls in a single go was broken… by a group of fellas from Athlone.

Now, we can only assume they’re visiting Santa Ponsa for a year long trip otherwise we’re forced to say that’s an excessive amount of alcohol to be purchasing.

The irony of it? The previous record in the off licence was set by another group of Athlone fellas.

Cheers to Paddy Flynn for sending this our way.
