Irish people set to spend a staggering and record breaking amount online this weekend

Well for some

Well for some.

There are some people that like to buy all their Christmas presents early but they don’t know all the fun that can be had from running around in a blind panic while grabbing anything that’s left on the shelf on Christmas Eve. It’s great craic.

It seems that a lot of people are planning ahead though because €98m is expected to be spent this weekend online. This figure represents an 18% increase on the figure from last year and Visa Europe say that the spending between today and Cyber Monday will make this the biggest weekend for Irish online shopping in history.

Speaking with Newstalk, Retail Ireland director Thomas Burke says that retailers are preparing for their most hectic Black Friday weekend and that “some businesses will see an increase in sales this weekend of 30% with reduction of over 25% available in some outlets”.
