Lucky Irish punter claims a whopping €95,000 from a 50 cent bet

Checking one’s bank balance is something that many people go out of their way to avoid after a long weekend (particularly a four-day long weekend) but one punter in Athlone had reason to feel pretty good about himself after Easter. Last Thursday, the punter in question placed a 50c bet on the UK lotto at a Ladbrokes branch in Mardyke Street in Athlone, which came good for a cool €95,000.
The punter, who may well be carrying a smug look around the streets of Athlone this week, selected 8, 16, 10, 23 and 19 as his numbers, placing 25c on the six number draw at 300,000/1 and another 25c on the draw including the bonus number at odds of 80,000/1.
Commenting on the gigantic windfall, Hayley O'Connor of Ladbrokes said: “This lucky punter got more than a few eggs this Easter. While most people spent the bank holiday weekend piling on the pounds, he's pulled in tens of thousands of euros.
