Irish seafood restaurant named best seafood restaurant in the world

Rory Cashin

If you’ve ever eaten here, then you probably already agree.

The Luxury Restaurant Awards for 2019 took place in Russia this week, with all of the best high-end eateries around the world competing for some prestigious titles.

The full list of over 400 winners around the world can be found here, but we can whittle it down to the stuff you’ll likely find most interesting.

First of all, the overall winner of Global Restaurant of the Year went to Gåte, a 40-seater restaurant in South Africa, with the judging panel describing it as “a dialogue between art, craft & culinary tradition. Each ingredient is an invitation to discover the land; each dish, an unforgettable experience.”

Sounds … expensive.

Anyways, if you don’t have handy access to the 14-hour flight to South Africa, then you’ll be happy to know that two Irish restaurants made the cut, with both of them seafood outlets, and both of them to be found in Dublin.

Aqua Restaurant in Howth was the winner of the Global Luxury Seafood Restaurant award, while SOLE Seafood & Grill on William Street was the winner of the European Luxury Seafood Restaurant award.

We would’ve assumed that the best seafood restaurant in the world would ALSO be the best seafood restaurant in Europe, but maybe it was a case that the restaurants can’t go for both of those awards.

So if you’re ever hungry for, literally, some of the best food in the entire world, it is comforting to know we can find some of it right on our doorstep.
