WATCH: Heartfelt wedding speech in Sligo turns into huge musical number

The bride apparently had zero clue that this was about to happen…

Wedding speeches can be a tricky business.

Too short, and it feels like you didn’t put any care into it.

Too long, and you risk boring everyone in the room senseless.

Try anything too whacky (like a choreographed dance number), and there’s a chance it’ll come off too cheesy.

It is a tightrope walk (note: don’t give a wedding speech while doing a tightrope walk), but we reckon this groom worked it to his advantage, showing off an incredible set of pipes in the process.

Wedding guest William Jackson brought JOE’s attention to the clip, telling us a bit more about it, too:

“Their names are Patrick Lacken and Róisín Timoney and they’re both from Ballina in Count Mayo. The bride knew nothing about it!”

In the clip, you can see the packed wedding reception, and up the top we can see the groom take the microphone and give a speech to the room.

He tells his new bride that “If I only had one day left on this earth, I’d still be the happiest fella in the world, because I’d be with you for one more day”… and then he breaks into a perfect rendition of ‘One Day More’ from the hit musical Les Miserables.

He isn’t alone though, as a number of other fantastic singers begin to emerge from the crowd, joining the husband up on the main table, before belting out the entire, powerful number to a jaw-dropped crowd.

The Diamond Coast Hotel in Enniscrone in County Sligo took the original video.

Cheers to William Jackson for sending this our way. Got a story for JOE? Fill out our online form here.
