This Mayo man is in the middle of a quest to walk 2000km around Ireland… barefoot

It’s Day 51 for our intrepid walker and all-round legend, Eamonn Keaveney.

Most of the country has been swept up in Euro 2016 fever and not much else, but life still goes on and in some cases, lives are being saved by the actions of others.

Eamonn Keaveney, from Claremorris in Mayo, is currently on a 2,000+ kilometre trek around Ireland in his bare feet in an effort to both break the Guinness World Record for the longest barefoot journey and to raise money for Pieta House Suicide and Self-Harm Crisis Centre.

Today, June 20, marks the halfway point in Eamonn’s epic journey as he walks from Stradbally to Tramore. Tomorrow, he will be walking to Waterford.

Given that suicide and self-harm are issues that affect growing numbers of people, directly or indirectly, this a very worthy cause and the more people hear about it, the better.

JOE spoke to Eamonn’s sister Yvonne, who said: “We (his family) are hoping that the more people that know about the walk, the more he could raise for Pieta House.

“He might get some friendly waves along the way, offered a cuppa, to charge his mobile or even the occasional offer of a bed for a night as otherwise, he will be camping out every night. We keep in contact every day, however, he is completing the walk alone.”

This man deserves all the support he can get and if you would like to donate or follow his progress, he is on all the usual social media sites with full details below.
